Share Your Story
More than 54 million Americans are directly affected by disability and at least that many more are indirectly impacted because they are the mother, father, son, daughter, or friend of a person with a disability. Disability is the largest minority group in the country. It is also the only minority group that everyone has a chance to join at some time in their life. Many individuals across the country are relatively unaware of the issues that people with disabilities face every day of their lives.
What do you think of when you hear the word disability? Do you have a disability or do you have a close friend or family member with a disability? If you're someone who's been affected by disability, please take a moment to tell the world your story.
A few questions to think about:
- Please tell the audience about your disability or how it has affected a family or friend.
- What issues has your disability caused in your life (you may tell specific stories or be more general)?
- What successes and accomplishments in your life are most important to you?
